…somewhere in the forest, among the swamps and other natural phenomena full of buzzing mosquitos there are several settlements. They are still inhabited so there are some side effects as well: shabby houses, cows and huge cucumbers. What does such life look like? To us, people from big cities, this may seem magical, romantic, mysterious, insightful and open. But for the locals it is something different. In the evening they get on a small train which will without any doubts take them home from Alapaevsk, “centre of civilization”.

Alapaevsk narrow-gauge railroad was opened in the end of the 19th century as a supportive line of the metallurgical plant but during Soviet period it expanded for several hundreds kilometers. There was a monumental railway station building and the trains depart from it to go west and east. Once you come to the central station Krasnaya-2, you notice a lot of bending traffic lights, so you may imagine how vigorous life was here some time ago.

And now the narrow-gauge line and the residents of remote settlements live out their lives. There is now only one main line to the dead end station Kalach and one branch line to settlement Beryozovka. They both make 170 of narrow-gauge track! Bridges, sidings, settlements... And that very train which unites this wonderful region.
